The Museum of the American Indian is having a Trade Feast Celebration in honor of its Fiftieth Anniversary on Saturday,September 16 ,11- 5pm.

The Museum of the American Indian will celebrate its 50th Anniversary on Saturday, September 16th from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. The Museum’s 50th anniversary Trade Feast will be held at Miwok Park (2200 Novato Blvd.).  Native crafts, dancing, singing, storytelling, food and other activities for children and adults alike will be presented.

Saturday’s Trade Feast , a tradition since 1973, will include remarks by Marin Board of Supervisors President Judy Arnold, Novato Mayor Pro Tem Josh Fryday, Superintendent of Marin County Board of Education Mary Jane Burke, Museum Board President Doug Fryday, Museum Acting Director Teresa Saltzman and Dr. Tom King among others. A representative of the Marin Community Foundation will also participate.

Among those who will be honored at the event will be former Novato High School Archaeology Club members, Museum founders, civic organizations and Museum board members and staff, past and present.  There is no admission charge for the Trade Feast.

Trade Feast Participants will include Native American artists, Red Voice Drum Group, Intertribal Pomo Dance Group, Kalpulli Anahuak Aztec Dancers, Hula Manu O’o, Hoop Dancer, Miwok Songs and Stories, basketry demonstrations, regalia making, shell bead drilling, children activities, book sales and tours of the Museum. Museum tours will also be offered throughout the day.
