After Labor Day this fall, St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ross begins its seventh Choir School season. Taught by Music Director David Montgomery and St. John’s Vocal Coach Soprano Sara Frondoni, the Choir School offers children a guided course of basic singing and music reading, and, eventually, advanced theory and musical style.  The course progresses through 5 levels; participants receive letters documenting their achievement as they pass each level.

The School is divided into two choirs by age: The youngest choristers (grades K-2) sing in the St. Cecilia Choir, where they learn through memorized songs and musical games. They perform about once a month at St. John’s Ross.  Tuition per semester for this program level is $125.  This choir meets on Thursdays from 5:15 to 6:00 PM.

The St. Hildegard Choir is for grades 3 through middle school. Choristers learn to read music, study fundamentals of music theory, and acquire musicianship skills as they perform music from the sacred and secular traditions. Each participant also receives individual guidance in singing.  This choir also performs about once a month at St. John’s Ross. Rehearsals and instruction take place on Tuesdays from 5:00 to 6:15 PM.  Tuition per semester for this program level is $225 and includes all instructional materials.  Limited scholarships are available; no child will be turned away for financial reasons.
