Bikkhuni Varañanī (Viên Huệ) Bio:

Bikkhuni was born in Vietnam, but came to the United States (Illinois) at the age of 12. After reading about the Buddhist cycle of birth and death at the age of 13, she decided that she wanted to learn a way to liberate herself from the suffering of samsara, and share with others. She knew from a young age that she wanted to be ordained but her parents wouldn’t allow it. After a number of years more of reading and studying, her father allowed her to be ordained.

She was ordained at Diệu Nhân Buddhist Zen Monastery in Sacramento, under the Bamboo Grove meditation tradition. The Head leader of Bamboo Grove Meditation (Thiền Phái Trúc Lâm) is the Most Respected Venerable Thích Thanh Từ. She has been learned and practiced different methods of meditation (Zen and Vipassana). After then she realized that applying methods are not enough, but through deep understanding of the impermanence, suffering, emptiness and non-self, we can eliminate greed, anger, attachments, and ignorance.

The title of her meditation is “Letting Go of Attachments”
