Visionary Marin: Honoring Dr. Nahid Angha

The Marin Interfaith Council's 7th annual Visionary Marin Event, honoring Dr. Nahid Angha, was a big success!

On November 8th, 2012 nearly 200 guests gathered at the Mill Valley Community Center in Mill Valley, California to honor Dr. Nahid Angha. The evening began with a reception, during which guests enjoyed beverages and delicacies, bought raffle tickets from our young salespersons, and bid on silent auction items. The program started with a moving video about the founding of MIC 30 years ago. Rabbi Barenbaum, a founder of MIC, The Rev. Carol Hovis, Executive Director of MIC, and The Rev. Terry Hamilton-Poore, Board President, welcomed all present and spoke about MIC and Dr. Angha. Dr. Angha shared reflections on Sufism and interfaith collaboration and then was interviewed by The Rev. Canon Charles Gibbs of the United Religions Initiative. After winners of the Silent Auction and Raffle Baskets were announced, Sarah Hastings Mullin, Ph.D., a member of the International Association of Sufism and MIC Board member, ended the evening with a reading. The evening showcased vibrant interfaith relationships both in the honoree and also in the community that gathered to honor her. The event photos, which capture people of the Buddhist, Christian, Pagan, Brahma Kumari, Bahai, and Jewish traditions coming together to celebrate and honor a Sufi Muslim, testify to the good work of MIC these past 30 years. Thank you to everyone who made Visionary Marin and MIC's work possible!

Dr. Nahid Angha, co-founder/Director of the International Association of Sufism (IAS), recipient of recognition from the UNESCO's Universal Forum of Cultures and honoree of the Marin Women's Hall of Fame. Dr. Angha is one of today's major Muslim scholars with over fifteen published works.
