Dr. Erica Bains
Dr. Erica Bains, Professor at Mary’s College since 2001, has served on their Interfaith Council since 2005 and joined the i4c elected council in 2018 after being part of the Interfaith Council for 10 years. She is the Chairperson of the East West Association of Sikh Women for World Peace and as most Sikhs commits a third of her life to Sewa (service to mankind). Currently she also serves as the President of Friends of Wagner Ranch (supporting the conversation of a Historical Nature site and enhancing environmental education) and is the CFO of Standing Straight (an International organization that provides life-saving pediatric spine deformity surgeries to extremely impoverished children and enhances spine deformity education and timely care to local medical professionals). She also serves on the board of directors of the Food for Thought, a winter holiday food program that addresses childhood hunger in the West Contra Costa County Besides that serves over 400 impoverished and food insecure families in Richmond, California.
Dr. Bains enjoys finding quite time to reflect on the meaning of life by organic farming and finding sustainable solutions to responsibly and ethical agricultural solutions.
Her most significant goal in life is to find a way to find peace amongst people of diverse backgrounds. While she is of the Sikh faith, she strongly believes that serving all gods creations including all life forms and the environment is the only call and commitment worth pursuing in serving god and strongly believes that to solve the problem that plagues us as humans is to abandon our differences and come together to find a solution to heal our divide as human beings of different backgrounds, genders, religion, race and make whatever commitment and sacrifices that are necessary to save the planet.
