Rev. Dr. James McDonald is the 11th president at San Francisco Theological Seminary (SFTS).
Before SFTS, McDonald, an ordained Presbyterian minister, worked for Bread for the World, a faith-based advocacy organization in Washington, D.C., that urges national legislators to end hunger. Among his many duties at the nonprofit, McDonald managed day-to-day operations, spearheaded fund-raising, and focused on advocacy and strategic efforts to build a broad movement against hunger and poverty in the United States and around the world. With a PhD in international relations from American University, McDonald was instrumental in leading Bread for the World's effort to secure debt relief for the world's poorest countries.
After receiving a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Divinity degrees from Princeton University and Union Theological Seminary in New York, respectively, McDonald worked in pastoral ministry for 15 years. Throughout his career, McDonald has shown a deep passion for education that makes a difference. He was an adjunct faculty member at American and George Washington universities for nearly a decade, teaching courses on world politics, foreign policy and Latin America.

Gleaning Day at Green Gulch Farm Zen Center

On Sunday, October 9, 2011, fifty-one people from 7 different religious communities and traditions in Marin County, came together to glean left-over produce in the vegetable gardens at Green Gulch Farm Zen Center. 33 adults and 18 youth from Jewish, Presbyterian, Catholic, Buddhist, Christian Science, United Methodist and Episcopalian communities spent the afternoon learning about the Jewish concept of gleaning, the Zen Buddhist tradition of meditation and organic farming at Green Gulch.
Our group gleaned 70 boxes of kale, broccoli, chard, donating 20 boxes to St. Vincent de Paul Society Free Dining Room, and the other 50 boxes to Marin Organic. Everyone enjoyed getting dirty and collecting abundant organic vegetables for our sisters and brothers who benefit from the free meals and food at St. Vincent’s and Marin Organic.
